Effects of Automated Irrigation Systems and Water Regimes on Soil Properties, Water Productivity, Yield and Fruit Quality of Date Palm

Applications of modern micro-irrigation methods are inevitable for optimum water use due to the limitations imposed by irrigation resource scarcity. Regardless shortages and associated challenges in dry areas, date palm trees consumes an excessive quantity annually using conventional methods. Therefore, present study was designed evaluate effects surface subsurface systems, i.e., drip (SSDI), controlled (CSI), drip-irrigation (SDI), with different regimes, 50%, 75%, 100% requirements (IWRs), on yield fruit quality palms (cv. Khalas) conservation dryland region Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia. The three IWRs were studied macronutrients soil chemical properties at depths (0–30, 30–60, 60–90 cm), as well productivity, yield, palms. carried out over two years a two-factorial randomized complete block design (RCBD) nine replications. results indicated that electrical conductivity (EC) increased depth increased. did not change much all experimental treatments, while pH values decreased from 0–30 cm. Although maximum (96.62 kg palm−1) recorded when applied SSDI system, other treatment combinations, such SDI IWR (84.86 palm−1), 75% (84.84 CSI (83.86 behaved alike showed promising results. Similarly, highest productivity (2.11 m−3) observed system 50% IWR, followed (1.64 (1.40 m−3). Fruit attributes also promoted IWR. Hence, method appeared be optimal choice arid areas its positive impact characteristics without affecting properties.
